  1. Emotions are a huge part of the customer experience. Emotions drive or destroy value for a business, and often in hidden ways. Emotions influence our desire to buy or not to buy, what we choose from a company’s offerings, what we remember and share about the experience, and, perhaps most importantly, whether we will be loyal to a brand.

  2. I often write my blog posts and articles whilst travelling on either a train or an aeroplane. Although I can also be found hunched over my laptop keyboard in hotel rooms at twilight hours, the confined space of a metal tube travelling at high speeds is the perfect environment for me to commit my thoughts into words.

  5. It was just a tiny light, but it made all the difference.

How many times have you woken up in a hotel room and not known where you were? It’s a common occurrence, especially for frequent travelers. You’re not in your own bed or on your own pillow; the room isn’t familiar and you’re not even sure where the door is. It’s very dark.

During two recent hotel stays, I observed two different solutions to this customer pain point that were so simple, I wondered why no one else was doing it.

  6. When a company sets out to revamp its customer experience, it tends to focus right away on the extreme events, the big, rare customer service catastrophes: mass blow-ups online and so forth. But I actually tend to discourage them, as their customer experience consultant, from going there first. That’s because I subscribe to what could be called “the broken windows theory” of customer service and customer experience improvement.

  7. As Customer Experience (CX) professionals, we all have some of the same tools at our disposal – journey mapping, surveys, design thinking, etc. But some CX pros just seem to be able to get more out of them. They are better able to connect the dots between customer needs and changes the organization needs to make or set in motion the plan to get things done. So, what ingredients help separate successful CX professionals from the pack? At Walker, we’ve identified ten skills or characteristics of successful CX leaders. In this blog, I want to focus on one – business savvy.

  8. What do my customers want? The savviest executives are asking this question more frequently than ever, and rightly so. Leading companies understand that they are in the customer-experience business, and they understand that how an organization delivers for customers is beginning to be as important as what it delivers.

  9. Listen to Commercial & Operations Director, Group Enterprise at Vodafone Gary Adey, on the Modern Customer Podcast.

In a world where many customers just feel like dollar signs or voices on the phone, one of the largest telecommunications companies in the world promises its customers they will be able to see the whites of its employees’ eyes. No matter the issue, there will always be someone there so closely involved in the situation that customers will know who they are and feel their presence.
