  1. With a new era of artificial intelligence (AI) dawning upon us, it’s an incredible time for customer experience, with humongous benefits to the customer and ultrafast customer service. As AI technology matures, forward-thinking enterprises are plugging in conversational AI in their strategic investment roadmaps to leverage it for their customer service function. In fact, Gartner predicts that “conversational AI-first" will supersede "cloud-first, mobile-first" as the most important, high-level imperative for the next ten years.

  2. If “the customer is always right” is the golden rule of customer service, then “treat each customer as an individual” should be the golden rule for brand marketing. Every consumer wants to feel as though the brands they support view them as a unique entity, rather than another customer identification number.

For years, brands were able to get by delivering mass communications and services to their buyers, but those days are gone. Today’s consumers want assurance that brands hear their unique voices, consider their original feedback, and deliver products and services that are tailored to their personal lifestyle needs.

  3. It’s holiday time! What a joyous time of year!

And, then there is the holiday shopping experience… This is how I see it. I get in my car. About a mile from the mall I begin to experience heavier-than-usual traffic. Not just a little heavier, but sometimes it seems like worse than rush hour. Is there an accident? No, there’s a traffic jam at the mall. Once I’m at the mall, I experience the search for the parking spot. Then there’s the crowded stores, the lines to check out, and then the reverse commute to get home.

  6. A big part of charging more, earning more and attracting more customers comes down to trust. Can your customers trust you to reliably provide what they want? If they can, they will buy from you. If they can't, they won’t.

  7. At least once a week, I load up a hypothetical shopping cart from online retailers like Zara, ASOS, and Sephora, only to decide that I don't want to spend money on clothes or makeup I don't really need. So I abandon the cart and close the tab. According to new research by Market Inspector, I'm not the only one. Fifty-seven percent of internet users discard internet shopping carts because of indecisiveness.

How can companies fix that indecision? For starters, 31 percent of online shoppers report that they weren't able to get answers to simple questions from company websites. That's not a product issue; it's a customer service issue.

  8. NGDATA’s annual Consumer Banking Survey found that consumers have increasingly high expectations and demand exceptional customer service in exchange for their loyalty. This means that banks and credit unions must accelerate digital transformation across their organizations so that they have the tools to become fully customer centric. Consumers must be at the center of their entire architecture, and meet the raised expectations for service providers.

  9. All Aaron Dun wanted was to surf a website. There was only one problem: a chabot wouldn’t let him. It kept popping up during his web session, despite Dun’s multiple attempts to “X out" the chabot. Dun, a senior marketing executive in the Boston area, chronicled his web-travel chatbot woes in a popular LinkedIn post last month. “Please, please, PLEASE help your customers know when I have hit the little "x" to close the chat window, and you know, maybe help them WAIT awhile for me to decide I need help?!!” Dun wrote.
