  2. I recently took my car in for servicing and got it back the same day. But after less than an hour, the problem reappeared. I took the car back, and after some delay, the issue was resolved. While I was collecting the vehicle the service associate informed me I would be receiving a survey, and asked if I would kindly give him a 9 or 10.

After sharing my story with friends, I realized that my experience was no exception, which prompted us to launch our own survey on the premium and luxury automotive segment. We found that the customer experience (CX) with most brands was poor, yet most of them were boasting about their high customer satisfaction rates. This inevitably led to the conclusion that CX measurement is flawed.

  3. In most cases, price alone isn't the biggest factor in the low conversion rates that some websites see--it's subpar customer experiences. That's according to research by Qubit, a website optimization company, which decided to gauge just how valuable customer experiences are by analyzing more than 1.2 billion mobile website interactions.

The same is true for more than just website visits, though. If you want a cup of coffee or a box of Band-Aids, you could find a store for both on pretty much any street in any city. Companies that compete for your attention and loyalty these days can't really offer unique products anymore--after all, thousands of other companies in thousands of other cities offer the same.

  4. When I think of a hospital I think of fear and bad vibes. Patients are afraid of staff, and staff are scared of being sued. We think of aloof doctors and under-appreciated administration. Vulnerable patients are abrasively stuffed into a system that doesn't want them there.

The hospital that morphs itself into a luxury hotel, now that's something to think about. It all comes down to innovation and customer experience.

Here are 10 examples of customer experience innovation that transform the hospital to be more like a luxury hotel.

  5. As customer experience rapidly supersedes price and product to become the single most important differentiator for businesses, turning global data into meaningful insights has emerged as a critical imperative. For this, organisations must adopt a global command centre model wherein a centralised command centre serves as the hub for organisational data aggregation and processing.

  8. I often write my blog posts and articles whilst travelling on either a train or an aeroplane. Although I can also be found hunched over my laptop keyboard in hotel rooms at twilight hours, the confined space of a metal tube travelling at high speeds is the perfect environment for me to commit my thoughts into words.

  9. The businesses that are best loved by customers tend to be ones that make them feel smart, competent, in control. This comes about thanks to thoughtful (read: easy to use) design choices, thoughtful hiring and training of employees, and other deployment of human effort, engagement, and judgment to make things easy for a customer-and difficult for a customer to make a mistake or suffer embarrassment.
